My stay at the Howard Johnson was a mixed experience. The rooms, although reasonably nice, felt run down, outdated, and had a musty smell. Housekeeping didn't quite meet expectations, leaving the room looking messier than when I left. On a positive note, the hotel's service, especially at the Apollo, was extremely accommodating and pleasant.

The hotel is in a convenient location near the NY Sheep and Wool event, providing easy access to Saugerties and the Catskills. While the rooms are spacious and clean, some maintenance issues like a malfunctioning toilet and a screen with a hole need attention. The service staff is accommodating and willing to go out of their way to assist guests, even during challenging situations like clearing snow during a storm. The overall condition of the hotel appears worn and in need of renovation, yet the front desk is pleasant and helpful. There are limitations in the dining options, but at least a cup of coffee can be obtained, which is beneficial for guests heading out for activities like daily hikes. The hotel lacks modern amenities and could use improvements in certain areas, though the staff's friendliness and efforts to make guests comfortable are notable.

The hotel is conveniently located near amenities such as food markets and major stores, making it a practical choice for travelers. The rooms provided a mix of experiences, with some noise from adjoining rooms but not facing the busy thruway, and a temporary issue with the room temperature. Unfortunately, the dining options were not ideal for those looking for a more complete meal experience.
